This piano concerto by Mozart presented here inaugurate an ambitious project at Henle Publishers: in the coming years many of the Salzburg master's 23 piano concertos will be published in completely new Urtext editions. And none other than Andras Schiff is collaborating with us. His piano reductions are aimed at amateurs rather than professionals; his fingerings for Mozart's solo part have been exquisitely fine-tuned and are inspiring; and where Mozart's original cadenzas are missing, Schiff's stylistically perfected ones have been included. In so doing we aspire to set a new precedent. The quality is not only guaranteed by Andras Schiff, but also by the Mozart scholars to whom Henle Publishers have entrusted their Urtext editions. Each work is edited by a specialist, according to predetermined editorial guidelines. First and foremost Mozart's handwritten scores have been consulted, being the most important sources.
In some cases these had not yet been available when preparing previous editions.

MOZART: Piano Quartet No.1 in G minor, KV478
MOZART: Piano Quartet No.1 in G minor, KV478 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). For piano. Instrumental Solo Part and CD. Published by Music Minus One (MO.MMOCD6020).
Mozart's Piano Quartet No. 1, KV478, was completed in 1785. The result was a work which defined a genre, allowing the piano and the accompanying strings to share melody in a unified manner, as well as enjoying some concerto-like orchestrations which allow the piano to shine beautifully. Cast in three-movement form, it is pure, delectable Mozart, the overall effect ranging from powerful to bewitchingly charming. The first movement begins Allegro with an intense passion that gives way to a slightly melancholy Andante movement and then a sprightly Rondo which features delicious interplay between the instruments. Unfortunately the public of the 1780s found the work too complex and the publisher canceled the series. But it has remained one of the eternal classics of the piano chamber repertoire, and now you can play it with your own Music Minus One accompaniment!
